The Region
Piedmont is a fertile land, and not only in the agricultural sense. Geographically and culturally, the depth of offers is significant.
The region is surrounded by the Alps - Swiss to the north, French to the West, Maritime to the south - housing pristine and picturesque natural parks and numerous winter & summer resorts. The Po draws its source here and flows into Northern Italy's plain before moving on to Lombardia. Around Turin and to the south are hilly areas that are home to great foods & wines.
Turin, which is often synonymous with the automotive industry, was in fact the first capital of the Kindgom and thus of unified Italy. It is a major cultural centre, housing major museums and architectural landmarks. The other towns of Piedmont gravitate around castles and historical structures; they are appreciated even more when accompanied by local culinary delights.
