The Region
Molise, the last region of Italy created by carving out a section of Abruzzo, offers visitors an opportunity to travel in a genuine environment.
A poorer land, often forgotten by central authorities, the countryside is largely untarnished, the traditions and gastronomy barely unvaried. Important XVth and XVIth century castles dominate medieval towns. Important testimonials of the Roman epoch - be they of those who resisted the Empire or of the colonies - are alos part of the heritage. Inland towns will show important signs of the 2002 earthquake for many years to come.
Finally, the coast is relatively underdevelopped, maintaining the charm of local traditions and livelihoods.
