The Region
Veneto is often mentioned in the same breath as Venice. yet the two are not synonyms.
Venice is the universal jewel that everyone describes. Yet this city, which too often bears a role of vitrified museum, truly reveals its charms upon the repeat visit. When coming back, one starts to realize that discovery is never-ending, that arriving by the Grand Canal at night time is a totally different emotional experience. The more one returns, the greater the serendipity, emotions perpetually building upon each other.
Veneto is not a laguna. If you ahve the chance to be in town when strong winds blow in from the mountains (better in winter), take the boat to the Lido and discover the City of Doges crowned by snow-capped Alps ! Further discovery !
From the mountains to the hillsides and plains replete with castles and Palladian villas, without forgetting mythical cities like Padua or Verona, visitors can have their plate full without ever crossing the laguna.
