Piacenza's Hillsides
 |
From the plains to the hills preceding the Maritime Alps, we encounter the riches of Emilia. From fertile lands of international fame, a compact and ressourceful economy developped. Foundations for investing in culture. All framed in a soft and diffused environment. |
| Piacenza |

At the northern limit of the region, Piacenza is home to many churches. The gothic Duomo (XIIth century) is home to many important paintings and frescoes. During the same era, the church of S. Savino, Sant'Eufemia and the palazzo comunale were erected. Of Renaissance origins instead is S. Sisto and Madonna di Campagna. |
| Fiorenzuola d'Arda |
A rich agricultural town, its centre is dominated by a XIVth century Duomo, built upon an ancient church, and custodian to precious XVth century paintings and frescoes. Minor monuments include the church of Beata Vergine di Caravaggio, the Oratory of Beata Vergine and the Verdi Theatre.
From here we enter the colli piacentini hillside area, bearing towards the medieval town of Castell'Arquato and its priceless piazza Matteotti: the church of S.M. Assunta and its museum, the palazzo Pretorio and, naturally, its castle. |
| Salsomaggiore Terme |
Following the soft curves of the Emilian hills we end up in the internationally renowned thermal resort of Salsomaggiore. Since the XIXth century, the city's activity has centered around thermal cures. The geographic position gave it that needed touch to truly become an elegant resort where time seems to run by a different scale. |
| Fidenza |
The Duomo of Fidenza is an impressive romanic-lombard XIIth century structure. The facade is ornate of sculptures by dall'Antelami, hinting at the upcoming gothic transition that monuments are to experience. The palazzo comunale is distinctly gothic-lombard, notwithstanding the various restructurings and extensions brought forth over the centuries. Of interest is S. Michele (XVIIth century) and its baroque facade. Finally, the presence of the Magnani theater (XIXth century) is a witness to the importance of the economic productivity of this contained area. |
