Gargano Inland

This geological formation appears as an outgrowth of Italy, effectively seperating the Northern Adriatic from the South. This first itinerary explores inland's various ecosystems and the local heritage.
Lesina

The Gargano National Park has established in Lesina a special centre that offers multimedia educational experiences that relate the true character of the lake's ecosystem.
Tra Lesina e Varano On mount Delio, the medival town of Devia is an archeological and environmental park. Lake Lesina, home to an extraordinary variety of plant and animal life is at the forefront of the panorama. A sand dune that streches over 800 metres connects it to the Adriatic. The setting is completed by the Tremiti islands in the background.
Cagnano Varano A catamaran excursion on the other lake - Varano - gives one a different view on the XIIIth century towers and the Chiesa della Santa Annunziata that border it. The church is home to a wooden statue - the crucifix of Varano - which has been venerated by the locals since the XIVth century.
Ischitella Typical Ischitella is worth the stop, in particular the Terravecchia quarters.
Vico del Gargano The historical centre of Vico del Gargano is among the most beautiful of its kind. Diverse churches and the castle rise above a maze of narrow streets and passages. The vicolo del Bacio is a street dedicated to the town's patron saint - San Valentino.
Foresta Umbra

Between Vico del Gargano and Monte Sant'Angelo is the environmental jewel of the Gargano : the Foresta Umbra. 15 000 hectares of continental and meditteranean woods that house 2 000 botanical species, including 60 species of spontaneous orchids.
