The Region

Take the train through Umbria and chances are your neighbour will be a in his Order's dress.

The mystic nature of Umbria can be pieced together from many elements. The region of Italy with lowest density of population has a dominant colour: green. Green forests and woods connecting fertile plain areas that only occasionally seem touched by the hand of modern life. Rugged hills are capped with towns and villages that bring us back to the Middle Ages.

These urban treasures are full of heritage spanning Etruscan civilisation and the Roman Empire to the Renaissance; Umbria probably has the highest density of cultural heritage in all of Italy! They have also favourably exploited public funds for proper valorization to the point that arriving in some locality at dusk, or even after nightfall, provides stronger sensations than those experienced under daylight. Umbria is home to two of the three prettiest burgs of Italy - Todi and Orvieto.

Finally, the regional food & wine culture now has additional outlets stemming from the recent development of "agritourism" where hospitality also includes the fruit of the land exploited by its owners.
